Tanning Outdoors vs. Tanning Indoors
When you tan at an indoor tanning facility, your skin produces a tan in the same way that it does when you lay outdoors to tan. Both of these approaches to tanning are achieved through ultraviolet (UV) light. However, there is still a difference between the two, and it is important in comparing outdoor and indoor tanning. While tanning indoors, you are capable of controlling the amount of UV light that your skin is exposed to because this is a controlled environment. However, while laying out in the sun, the amount of exposure to the UV light cannot be controlled by you. It is easily affected by changes in the atmosphere. While tanning indoors, you can easily control your exposure time and therefore, prevent burning, which damages your skin.
